MTV VMA’s: The good, the bad and Nicki Minaj

For me the best dressed at the MTV Video Music Awards was Emma Watson, partly because there was a spate of fairly bland dresses, with Watson offering colour and print, but mainly because the Peter Pilotto dress suits her perfectly and is simply gorgeous. I also loved Taylor Swift in her extraordinarily impractical but stunning white suit by J Mendel, and Zoe Saldana in Salvatore Ferragamo which looks exquisitely detailed and saved from obscurity by its long sleeves.

On the other hand, for me Rihanna can’t quite pull off a white dress, cut oddly short with fabric gathering unflatteringly at her hips and worn braless. Alicia Keys’ dress is not even remotely defensible as it manages to be both boring and hideous all in one go. And Jessica Szohr manages to destroy a pretty black dress with some bizarre styling choices.

And I can’t leave this post without giving some space to Nicki Minaj, and in a random way I think I kind of, sort of, maybe like it. Shhhh…

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Before last week I had never watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

And to add to the embarrassment of reaching 25 without seeing this classic film, I hadn’t remotely appreciated what I had been missing.

Thankfully this has now been rectified, I have now seen the film (at the wonderful Rooftop Film Club no less, see my review for Romeo Says So here) and I am completely and utterly in love with Audrey Hepburn, or Holly Golightly I can’t quite be sure.

Incredibly charismatic, and managing to combine an extravagant while charming dress sense, I have a new and pretty serious girl crush – move over Miranda Kerr!

These are my favourite aspects of her look:

– Costume jewellery

– Dressing as she wants no matter the occasion

– Making dishevelled look sexy

– And perhaps the best accessory of all, a great ginger cat!

Princely dressing

With Prince Charles opening Men’s Fashion Week in London this week, what better time to acknowledge that the man knows how to wear a nice suit. Made-to-measure savile row tailoring doesn’t hurt of course…

French Open finest

I am a big tennis fan, with Nadal playing in the French Open final today against Djokovic I have been supporting him 100%, but in terms of sports clothes, there is a clear King and Queen of the court.

Maria Sharapova and Roger Federer, no matter what you think of their tennis, you can’t deny they look good playing it, both sponsored by Nike.

Best of the Baftas

My picks of the best looks at the Bafta’s are Made in Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh who looks incredible in Lanvin, and is not picked just because I am definitely on team Millie in the Millie/Rosie debate! Also looking amazing are Melissa George in Armani Prive and Emilia Fox in Hartnell Haute Couture. What do you think?

Tilda Swinton and tailoring

Tilda Swinton is queen of red carpet tailoring, the looks below, particularly the suit have made Tilda my best dressed of Cannes this year.
