Last night I went to see Singin’ in the Rain at the Palace Theatre, and had a great night, largely because of a really enjoyable production, and a little bit because of some farcical audience members.
In terms of the play, the dancing was wonderful, and I had forgotten how many great songs are in it, “make em laugh”, “good morning” and of course “singin’ in the rain” were the really well done highlights. But the best thing about the show was its ability to not take itself seriously and laugh along with you, something I was happy to do.
The evening was made even better as a result of some wine, great company (check out theworldofclementineray.wordpress.com) and a man in the audience sitting behind us who could not have found the production funnier, and had a laugh as loud as a walrus, which made everything even more entertaining.
All in all, I would highly recommended seeing Singin’ in the Rain, but bring a raincoat if you’re in the front few rows!
And for all you fashion lovers it has Burberry umbrellas, Louis Vuitton bellhops and more ’20s inspired dresses than the Spring/Summer collections. What more could you want?
I am sure all the winners below absolutely deserve their success but with no mention of either Noises Off or Wicked there have been some unforgiveable oversights!
